Dok Lao Media Service

Dok Lao Media Service started in 1992 under the name Media for Development.

Dok Lao promotes participatory media production for education and sustainable development. Dok Lao provides media services to PADETC’s Learning Centers and Networks as well as providing services to other development partners in Laos.

Its key activities include:

1. Training of young film makers
2. Production of short films in collaboration with youth volunteer networks in provinces
3. Development of handbooks on film making.

Doklao has also been involved in delivering a number of large scale film event such as the Vientianale in 2011 and the Science film Festival in 2012

Achievements and Impacts

Highlights of Dok Lao’s service delivery activities in 2012 include:

• Provided training on participatory film production for education and sustainable development to 12 university students.
• Collaborated to deliver the Science Film Festival with attendance from approximately 10,060 students from five provinces.
• Conducted training on “Basic Video Production and Documentary Film Making” for 24 youth volunteers.
• Produced 12 short films on “education for community development” with the youth volunteer network.
• Produced nine different films about community development.
• Organized a film campaign seminar at the National University of Laos and Learning  House with a total of 100 participants.
• Conducted Film Production Techniques training for 36 university students.

2011:

• 34 young film makers trained
• Conducted Laos’ 2^nd Lao film festival attended by 3,000 viewers
• 90 radio sessions were aired, which reached an estimated 7,200 listeners. Many radio shows are produced by children, for children.
• Production of 17 short films jointly with youth volunteer networks in provinces – of which 15 were on bio-diversity
• Printed one handbook on short film making
• Duplication and distribution of 420 copies of DVD.
